From Science To Most Haunted: Interview With Eamonn Van Harris

For The Haunted Attic, paranormal star Eamonn Van Harris talks to Fiona Dodwell about his life, early paranormal experiences, what it was like being part of TV’s Most Haunted and what’s in store for the future…

Eamonn, can you begin by telling us a bit about your background and how you became involved in studying the paranormal?

When I was a kid I had a handful of strange experiences. When I was about 3 years old I had technically died for nearly 8 minutes and was brought back to life. I had gone from a typical 3 year old playing with toys to being obsessed with lights, colours, and white noise. I would shine torches (flash-lights) in my eyes and was always pointing out every single street light. When I started primary school, I remember walking all alone through the assembly hall to get to the toilets (we would have to cross the hall to get to the other side to the toilets) and there were some speakers installed for various events. As I passed them, I could hear an electronic crackling sound coming through them. I would cover my ears and run to class as I was scared of the sound. The speakers at school had actually been disconnected for many years so they were dormant but seem to spring to life if I was around. When it was bedtime I would fall asleep to white noise on the radio, usually a detuned station, but as I would sleep I would hear those whispers and crackling sound again, it seemed to follow me wherever I went.

I was really close to my great Grandmother. She would always have her radio on and I was always curious, tuning in to different stations on shortwave, listening to broadcasts from all corners of the world. When she passed away it really hit me hard. Three days after she died, I had a vivid dream that I was asleep in my bed and I could hear the house phone ringing. I crept out of my bed and walked to the landing where I could see the living room light was on. I slowly walked downstairs and went to the phone receiver which said “Long Distance call”, so I picked up the phone and I could hear so many whispers, interference, crackling sounds that sounded like a Medium Wave radio at night stuck between many stations. The whispers and noise started to fade and what followed was my grandmothers voice to tell me that “Love always finds a way, it never dies, we never die” and that when I’m older I will build a telephone so we can speak. As soon as I tried to speak to her the line hung up and all that was left was a busy dial tone. The next morning when I woke, my mum had asked which one of us had left the living room light on making me wonder if I had indeed had communication with other side.

Fast forward to 2009 when I accidently started to receive whispers on my Blackberry phone. These whispers were the voices of family and friends who had passed, and the voice of my Grandmother came through asking “do you remember what I said” and from then on I have gone on to record and document 1000’s of hours of voices from the deceased, clear 2 way communications, images and technical information which has helped me build my bespoke and unique communication devices.

You have devoted a lot of time to finding authentic ways to record EVPs. Do you think technology is finally catching up to our desire to capture paranormal phenomena?

I really think it has, although we can still use old technology to record those who wish to speak to us. From the late 1950’s to the early 90’s, EVP was popular across Europe. I personally have put this down to the use of magnetic tapes and Valve/Transistor radios which seemed to work very well for the likes of Konstantine Raudive, Friedrich Jurgenson, Raymond Cass and many more. I believe Science is starting to catch up and our views on the Multiverse and my research in to Scalar are really starting to combine well. It’s still early days but I am certain that in the future this type of communication will be studied and rather than try to debunk it, we will try to advance and develop it. Civilization is still very young when it comes to technology, with electricity only being available to most household within the last 100 years. Just think where we will be in a 100 years time? So much is possible and there is still so much to discover, that’s why we need to be open minded and treat the evidence in front of us subjectively and without any prejudice. Research and development of a topic like this is about leaving your beliefs outside of the room and working from a logical and open minded approach with what is in front of you.

Would you describe yourself as a fully fledged believer in the paranormal?

I wouldn’t say so as there’s a 99% explanation for all things that happen, but it is what’s within the other 1% that excites me, the bits we don’t have answers for. I believe in the afterlife and from the recordings I receive, I believe life does go on and we gain a different perspective, a higher vibration. Life on earth seems to be about learning. There’s a great Latin term which I feel describes our time on earth and our next life path “ad astra per aspera” which translates to “to the stars through Hardship”.

What keeps you going? What drives your work in this field?

I just love what I do. I love the fact that whilst the world is happening outside, inside I have this amazing connection to a world where I hear voices that sing, that talk of their life on earth, that wish me a good morning or a good night after a day of experiments in the workshop. I feel proud that I pioneered and discovered / developed Scalar communication to the field and have inspired many other people to also research. But I am nowhere near finished with how I want to develop it. I have a lifetime of ideas ready to build and continually learn as I go along. It can be difficult as there’s nothing to compare it too, so everything is new ground to cover which is challenging and exciting. It feels like a joint effort from both sides of the veil and on occasions we congratulate each other on our progress between both worlds when it comes to a clear transmission.

What do family and friends make of your passion for the paranormal? Are they supportive?

Incredibly supportive. They know I am a rational analytical person who wouldn’t lead them astray. It took me months of private recordings before I eventually presented the evidence to my closest family and friends. Each of them got involved at some time or another and had their own experiences and communication which shocked them.

Are you working on any significant projects at the moment?

I am working on something for Broadcast which is really exciting although I can’t say too much about it but it’ll be a real look in to all the work and more. My foundation “NewWorldScience” is also growing with a new workshop, machines in development and transmission tests constantly happening. I plan to release all of the work soon along with a book as there is just so much to the whole experience that I haven’t shared which I hope can inspire other people.

What have you found to be the biggest frustration in your field of work, so far?

It’s a really cut throat industry where people who are frustrated with their own work usually insult, demotivate and abuse those who do actually have an interesting bit of evidence. There are a number of cliques who move around in groups and create politics which is really bizarre. I remember being approached after a frustrated man who asked why do I get communication and he doesn’t. My response was “Think of the communication as a telephone, many of my friends and family have passed and want to call me to speak… Does your telephone ring all the time at home?” basically if the other side want to speak, they will find a way, if they don’t want to speak to you then they don’t have anything they want to say.

On the upside I have met some brilliant people, who are just good souls with goodness in their heart and don’t take themselves too seriously. For me, I develop this work for my own personal benefit and I love hearing the voices and what they have to say. I like to host them and give them a chance to speak with me or act as a messenger so that I can pass a message on to someone else.

You have worked with the Most Haunted team in the past. It’s such a popular show! What was that experience like for you?

It was great fun and I am really grateful to have gotten the chance to showcase some of my work on the show. It was an eye opening experience which also taught me a lot about Broadcast media. Most Haunted was always a highly talked about show with a loyal fanbase that have always treated me amazingly! I have gone on to do other shows since but the Most Haunted fans will always have a place in my heart for all the love and support they have given me over the years which I will always appreciate.

Would you say you’ve personally had experiences that science cannot explain?

All of the voices I have received were at first mind blowing and I couldn’t understand fully how it worked. Now I have a pretty solid grasp of how it works and can measure how it works which is the whole point of science. Galileo once said “Measure what can be measured, and make measurable what cannot be” – that is the mission of myself and my foundation, to make this a consistent communication which can be measured, developed and perfected for the benefits of science and mankind.

Are you a big fan of paranormal shows? There’s so many of them on TV nowadays…

I don’t really get the chance to watch them as there are so many which is a good thing and can be entertaining. These days I watch shows about science, basically anything which can benefit my research in any way possible. I love watching shows on YouTube, podcasts about the unexplained and documentaries.
